PROBLEM STATEMENT & THESIS
While the use of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) tools is already common in foreign language education, with the emergence of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) new considerations arise regarding its impact and implementation. The integration of GenAI into higher education language learning classrooms can serve as a great opportunity to promote personalized and active learning, reduce student anxiety, and enhance instructional and pedagogical processes. However, it also raises questions on student learning and institutional policies.
This presentation aims to answer the following question:
What are the roles and challenges of GenAI in language learning in Higher Education?
CONCLUSION
The presentation concludes that GenAI should be viewed as a complement to human instruction rather than a replacement. Success depends on closing the "awareness gap" between student adoption and teacher knowledge through AI literacy training, assessment reform (moving toward higher-order learning), and the establishment of clear institutional governance
