About the Medical Spanish Initiative (MSI)
The Medical Spanish Initiative (MSI) at Georgetown University was established in 2019 by a group of medical students who recognized the significant gap in access to medical services for the Latin American community in the United States, particularly regarding communication in their primary language, Spanish. The mission of the MSI is to equip Georgetown medical students with the skills to effectively communicate with Hispanic patients and parents of patients, as well as educate the School of Medicine community about the specific health needs of the Latin American population.
Problem

Recognizing a critical disconnect between existing student knowledge and the current MSI modules, faculty advisors have identified that the sessions are currently structured with disproportionately advanced medical terminology and linguistic requirements.
