HD Supply: Associate Relations Investigations Training

This project involved designing a comprehensive training intervention using the ADDIE model. The resulting three-hour virtual training aligns organizational practices with corporate values to reduce compliance risk and ensure internal fairness.

THE PROBLEM

HD Supply faced a significant performance gap due to the lack of a standardized framework for HR Business Partners to conduct associate investigations, leading to inconsistent practices, potential legal risks, and a reduction in organizational transparency

ANALYSIS PHASE

  • Organizational Analysis: The training aligns daily HR practices with HD Supply’s core values and The Home Depot’s corporate governance standards to ensure ethical operations.

     

  • Audience Analysis: The target group includes 58 Field and 20 Corporate HR Business Partners across the U.S. and Canada, possessing diverse tenure and experience levels.

     

  • Task Analysis: A comprehensive task list and skills hierarchy were developed through SME interviews and direct observations to standardize the six-step investigation process: Record Intake, Plan, Interview, Analysis, Resolution, and Follow-up.

DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

We designed a three-hour virtual Webex training program centered on a five-step investigation framework: Intake, Planning, Interviews, Review, and Closing/Submitting. The curriculum incorporates a structured pre-training phase for buy-in and a high-engagement Case Study Session where participants apply principles to a realistic workplace complaint scenario.

The program’s effectiveness is measured using Kirkpatrick’s Four-Level Model:

  • Level 1 (Reaction): Post-training satisfaction and engagement surveys.

  • Level 2 (Learning): Real-time observation during case studies and a formal online knowledge assessment.

  • Level 3 (Behavior): Audit of investigation files and leader feedback 60–90 days post-training to ensure application of the new toolkit.

  • Level 4 (Results): Monitoring organizational impact through investigation quality metrics, reduced turnaround times in Navex, and legal compliance audits.
